An interactive throwback party splits the difference. Everyone has a song card — even the friend who doesn’t dance. Everyone plays — even the co‑worker who came because she felt obligated. The birthday person is at the center of the room the whole night, and the songs are straight from the era they grew up in.

How It Works

Three rounds. Their era. Their music. Their night.

1. You tell us the era. Turning 30? 2000s Hip‑Hop Bangers and 2000s Slow Jams. Turning 40? The 90s Rap Round and the 90s R&B Vibe Set. Or a mix if their taste crosses decades. We build the throwback playlist around what they’ll actually know word for word — not what a playlist algorithm thinks they’d like.
2. We show up with everything. Hype Emcee on the mic, DJ with full pro sound, custom song cards for every guest, markers, prizes. You send the address, the count, and any specific songs (their wedding song, first dance, high school prom track). Setup takes 30 minutes.
3. Three interactive music rounds. The birthday person’s wins are amplified. The DJ spins 30–60 second clips and their card is the focus — every time they get close, the Hype Emcee works the room. Between rounds: dance battles, lip‑sync showdowns, sing‑alongs. By round three the whole room is standing.

If the birthday person has a very specific artist obsession — a whole night of Beyoncé, or Jay‑Z, or 90s Mariah — we build the playlist around that. Single‑artist nights have happened.

• Your house / backyard — the classic. Block off the driveway, we set up in the living room or on the patio.
• Restaurant private room — call ahead about music levels. We coordinate.
• Airbnb — especially for weekender / destination birthdays. Send the address.
• Hotel event space — hotel-based birthday weekends work great.
• Warehouse / studio space — for bigger 100+ groups where a house won’t fit.

What it costs.

Pricing scales with group size, location, and add‑ons. Send the details, we come back with a fixed quote within 24 hours.

Rough range: 15–30 person birthday party in NJ starts around $700–1,100. Larger corporate‑style birthdays and NYC scale from there. Repeat customers get a discount — a lot of birthdays end up being annual traditions.

We are based in NY/NJ. Within 50 miles of NYC is our standard travel area; further out, we just tack on simple travel lines. A 50% deposit holds your calendar date.

What people ask before they book.

• Can the whole throwback playlist be from one artist?

  Yes. Beyoncé night, Jay-Z night, Mary J. night — we’ve built single-artist playlists before. Just tell us the artist and how many tracks you want in rotation (typically 40–60).

• How far in advance should we book?

  Weekends 4–6 weeks out. Holidays (NYE weekend, July 4, etc.) 8+ weeks. Weeknights work with 2 weeks’ notice most of the time. A 50% deposit holds your calendar date.

• Can we throw it in a small apartment?

  If we have ~10 feet of clear space for the DJ setup and enough seating for the group, yes. Below ~15 guests, apartments work fine.

• Is there a minimum group size?

  Nothing hard, but under 8 people the interactive music rounds lose their energy. We recommend 10+.

• Do you handle prizes?

  Either. We bring the premium prize loot or you supply your own. The birthday person’s biggest prize is usually something meaningful — that’s on you.

• Is there an age limit for private birthday parties?

  Our public tour shows are strictly 30 & Up. Private parties follow your rules and your venue’s, and the playlist can be adjusted to family-friendly (we skip the harder tracks) for mixed-generation birthdays.
